We have often been told … “I don’t have a computer, I don’t need a website.”

Whilst you may not have a computer, your current and potential customers do … and they are using it to shop for things they want from their home.

You can have online shopping or an order form for customers to use. And customers can see and compare what you offer. The opportunities are limitless and they are knocking at your door.

Make your presence on the WWW. Being on the web is the least expensive form of advertisement for your business. You can advertise 24 hours a day/7 days a week for less per year than most weekly newspaper ads.

Get orders, queries, comments and feedback from your customers and potential customers by e-mail - directly from your OWN website.

More and more people are using the Internet before leaving home to decide where they want to spend their hard earned money. Make sure you are there when they need you.

Web Development is, by far, the most intregal aspect of your website. Consider the following features well when designing a website.

Colours: Most people choose to have the colours on their website either the same or as close to the colours they use for their business materials (business cards, logos, letterhead, etc.). The colours should be vivid enough to grab attention, yet subtle enough to allow the information to be the veiwers main focus. One thing to note - not everyone sees the same colours. All the monitors and graphics cards that are available today, help to show colours differently!

Layout: A small website can easily be designed with alot of information and few photos in a document type format. It is important for a small site to get as much information out as possible in the least amount of pages. Other sites with more pages will generally need to be laid out in the fashion of a newspaper, that is; in columns, with headlines and bits of pertinent information and a link to the page where the balance of the information can be found. This allows you to give your visitors a quick look to see that you have what they came to find and a quick navigation for getting there.

Photos: Photos should be limited to the least possible number to enable less bandwidth usage when your site is being viewed. A larger number of photos can often mean less people are able to view your site before you have reached your bandwidth limit. If you do need to use alot of pictures on your site, it is recommended that they be made as small as possible while still being productive and saved as .jpg or .gif.

Links: Good links are important to a website. Search engines follow the links on your site and record them in their database. If your links are to sites which (a) have information relative to your business and (b) contain good content in relation to their business, the search engines will most likely find them to be good links. "Good" links have become a big factor in how you are ranked by the major search engines today.

Content: The content on your website should be as informative as possible in relation to your service or product line. Becoming an "expert" in your field will go a long way toward your business securing a higher ranking on the major search engines. Offering visitors a knowledge base for questions commonly asked about your product or service gives them an easy means of getting answers they may need and frees you from time-consuming phone calls during your business hours, as well as delays often associated with email correspondence. The more user-friendly your entire website is will bring customers back time and again, not only for the knowledge you offer them, but for the ease with which they can transact a purchase from you. Consider your content as if you were a visitor to your site and get it developed in the most effective way possible.

A good web development team should be able to take your ideas, your content, your requirements and turn them into a profitable, easy to navigate, search engine friendly website as an all inclusive package for your quoted price. You should be able to get support if something is not working for your business, you should get adjustments at no extra charge until the site is as you requested it and you should be given the necessary search engine optimisation (making your site meet the major search engine requirements) as part of your total agreed cost.
